Herb, you can always un-check "Play a sound" in the "Getting 
Attention" section of Eudora's Settings. That way you still have the 
normal system sounds but no loud Eudora sounds. Of course all I have 
to do is reach up and turn the volume knob down on my Apple Design 
speakers. Wait, here is your and Phil's solution: the PowerMate from
