After searching Google I feel that John is correct.  Basically the internal iMac
speakers can only be turned down so much within the OS.  If the App has the
ablitiy to control sound on top of that, you can lower it, but if it doesn't,
damn if it's just too loud!  

This happens on my daughters games, and they're for 3-6 year olds, so they don't
have a sep volume control within the App; this makes the games way too loud,
which was a big dissappointment for me.  My solution for now is to connect some
old beige computer speakers to the headphone jack in the front of the iMac and
control the sound through those.  Is there any other way that anyone knows of to
control those buildin iMac speakers?

Also, for your Eudora issue, you could always take whatever sound file that it's
playing for you, and use a sound editor (like Audacity) to re-record it at a
lower level.  It's a hacky workaround I'll admit, but short of using external
speakers that have a volume control on them, it's all I can think of.
