Hi Amber,

I was just watching Phil Schillers Power of X - presentation at MacWorld
<http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/powerofx03/>, and at that Chris Bourdon,
Mac OS X Product Marketing Manager(What a title ;-)) demonstrated how to
user Disc Copy for that exact purpose. (at about 25 minutes into the
presentation, if you have a fast access - God I love my ADSL :-))

Basically what you do is not to secure your computer as such. This is almost
impossible, as anyone with an OSX-CD can change your password and thereby
get access to it. Instead of that, you make a disk image using Disc Copy
choose New -> Empty image). Name it and make it the size you need, and -
this is the important part: Be sure to select encryption AES-128
(recommended).

This will make Disc Copy prompt you for a password. Be sure not to select
"add to keychain" as this will make it as secure as if you only password
protected your login, as Jeremy just stated, which is a good way for sure,
but not 100% secure. (nothing is of course. If you choose the same password
as your login, or an easy to guess password, or write the password down on a
paper next to your computer, you are as bad off as before. Security is
always a question of how difficult you want to make it for intruders, not if
it is a) secure or b) not secure.)

But when you have done that, you will have a disk image, where you should
put your work files on. The encryption is done in real time, and that is
really great from a security stand point. It is also 128 bit encryption,
which is good too.

When you then need access to your files, just double-click on the
disk-image, and you can view it as a truly password-protected part of your
hard disk for your eyes only.

Cheers,

Kim
