>Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a battery? Not really. The battery kicks in if there's a power outage, and the trickle charge preserves the battery the rest of the time. >Is this only for new >FP iMacs? Nah, my old Radius 81/110 did the same thing. But I didn't realize this until I had to replace its battery, because I always switched off the power strip when I shut down. Now I keep it plugged in, because I don't ever want to go inside that beast again (you pretty much need a tetanus shot before opening up many of the older Mac models). >My Blueberry 333 is on a power strip, so it is not connected to >AC when not in use, and has never had a problem with the battery. It'll take a while for that to to catch up to you. 3-5 years, maybe. But then again, I assume the PRAM battery is easier to get to on most recent models (I know it's easy on my eMac-- right next to the RAM slots). So if that's the case with your iMac, and unplugging it each day makes you feel safer (power surges and lighting hits, you know), you can probably continue to do that, and just "deal with it" when the battery fails. -- http://www.zirconia3.com "If he thought he could fly, why didn't he take off from the ground first?" --Bill Hicks(1961-94) -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
