I don't think I articulated my response correctly.

When you read my response, keep in mind that because these ads are 
never being requested, they don't count as an 'impression'. Thus, the 
site doesn't get paid for your visit.

Thus, since you aren't being impressed, and they aren't getting paid, 
merely blocking ads/popups/popunders, you ARE affecting that site's 
revenue stream adversely. And they WILL notice, if enough people do it.
