Hi Tafkar!

Thank you so much for your reply. I followed your advice to isolate the
problematic extension. I removed a lot of extensions I didn't need,
restarted it, and it worked. But the only problem was that the iMac
display still dies as soon as I put it to "sleep" or "restart" or even
"shutdown", so I had to unplug it and plug it back, then turn it on to
use the iMac again. I notice too that the "on/off button" on the iMac
itself does not turn into amber colour when you "sleep", "restart" or
shutdown".

It seems that the problem is that as soon as you turn off the display
("sleep" or "restart" or "shutdown"), the display dies.

I even formatted my harddrive and restored the iMac to its factory
settings and software, then updated to 9.2.2 (from 8.1), but no success.

... but at least I can use the iMac, I just have to avoid putting it to
"sleep", or "restart" or "shutdown".

I hope somebody can give me an advice what to do. I tried looking at Mac
Help but it doesn't have anything there about this problem.

Thanks again.

Gary
