Well John,
Out of date is a term much over used in the computer industry. Some
Inkjet printers have media card slots so that you can slide in the "film"
from your digital camera and print without a computer. Really a gimmick
feature, though many have found a use for it.
Since you have an iMac, you really don't "need" this feature, though you
may want it an have a use for it.
So... The big question is, do you have a digital camera, and if so, what
media does it take? If it's compact flash, you are in the money, if not...
I am assuming a lot. The composition of your post seem to suggest to me
you don't have a use for this function. You made no mention of your camera
or the media it took. This card is NOT required for printing. If I am right,
then you have a fine printer that will put out pretty good results which it
will continue to do for years to come, until Epson stops making that
cartridge and you can no longer find 3rd part refills. Personally, I've
never had a printer go obsolete. I've always upgraded because I wanted
certain features (most recently, a 6 color printer) and sold the old one to
people who put it right to good use.
I hope this help you make your decision.
