I can almost guarantee that "Bryce Lee"'s problem was caused by 
trashing thing in OS 9 that affect OS X. Because OS X's invisible 
folders/files are visible in Mac OS 9, it would be easy for someone in 
that mindset to trash folders/files they thought they didn't need that 
were actually part of (and vital to) OS X.
