I don't see how Al Gore is going to harm Apple, really. It survived John Sculley; it can survive Al Gore. New points of view don't generally hurt, and if he has nothing to say that interests Apple, he's used to being more or less ignored for extended periods. Al Gore has been hobbled by being, well, kind of a geek, and he's easy to make fun of for that. When he thinks he's expected to act suavely like some political James Bond, he just ends up looking silly. Fine. I would, too. I'd fail at all the photo ops just like so many vice presidents before me. (Quayle holding a rocket launcher backwards comes to mind...) Al (and I) just don't do "cool" very well, alas... But that doesn't mean he doesn't think very creatively, and that doesn't mean he doesn't have ideas about how technology might be used to enrich the fabric of our lives. Personally, I think he'll fit right in at Apple, silly ideas, lack of social grace, and all.
