You should also post your story on macfixit.com if you haven't already. I bought a dead iMac about a month ago and what you are describing is exactly how this iMac is acting. Unfortunately I have no idea what caused this iMac to die since I bought it dead. If you end up having to buy a new logic board check out these people first.

After the hard drive spins up do you hear the hard drive seeking like it's loading up the OS?
