Hello Bill,

I have had to do this many times. There are two clips that snap into place on the front. Place the iMac on its face, or screen down on a protected surface, and you facing the rear. With one hand, pull the top of housing just a little towards you, then gently push downwards and with the other hand on the bottom of the housing (where the speaker covers are) pull towards you. The housing will "snap" off. It may take you a few times to do it. I'm reluctant to do it each time because it feels as if it's going to break.
