Jason I have the exact same iMac and this past Fall it was doing exactly what yours is showing.
The Apple Certified Repair Shop in my area diagnosed it has having a bad P.A.V. board (Power Analog Video). The only problem they came across was when they put the new board in it fried the monitor. Apple told them to order another board AND monitor. Lucky it was still under AppleCare (exp. this past Feb). I am not in any way doubting what others have said, just giving you my experience with my own iMac.
