I was able to get a hold of the OS 9 version of Diskwarrior and ran that on my HD. It took over 2 hours for it to sort out all the directories but after it was finished, I restarted and all the disk errors were gone and the start up speed to the OS X desktop went from 8.5 minutes (before the fix) down to less than a minute after. So..I am absolutely sold on DiskWarrior now and although this older Diskwarrior did the job, I may still get the most recent version. Thank you for your recommendation !
