I have a 333 Strawberry iMac. Non-apple HD (actually it wont boot off of any
of the OE drives from my "fleet" of beige boxes, but that's another story),
partitioned into two volumes: OS 9 and OS X. Does the "hold down the option
key during start-up" work to get the start-up disk option menu on these
machines? I can't get it to work. Is it a specific firmware/software
component? I built this machine using a system disk from a Powerbook G4 and
was wondering if this was the culprit.
this feature requires two things - a machine running OS 9 or higher - a machine with AGP graphics
you have the first, but the 333 iMac lacks the latter. the first machine to support this feature was the slot-loading iMac, the PowerBook (Firewire) (aka pismo), and the G4 (AGP) (aka sawtooth).
