"partitioning" is mostly for human consumption, though there are some exceptions (such as the 8GB OS X boot restriction on this model). an ATA bus isn't sophisticated enough to address disk space beyond somewhere in the vicinity of 128GB. basically... the method ATA/66 uses to count disk space is only capable of counting up to ~128 billion bytes. the hardware just can't go any higher. later revisions of the ATA architecture upped the ante, allowing the computer to address more disk space. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
