I have a 266 mgh Grape IMAC with 96 mgs ram, currently running Mac OS 8.6. I replaced the PRAM battery about 6 months ago.
A week or so ago while running, the monitor would make a sound of crackling and the image would flicker. (Thankfully I did back up most of my necessary data) Yesterday, I left it on for a few hours, while doing odds and ends, and came back to a dead machine. Now, if I leave it off for an hour of so and turn it back on, I get the start up chimes, the screen stays black for about 5 seconds, then the power button goes from green to yellow and it dies. If I try to start it again, I have to wait a while to get any response at all to pressing the power button, but I can never get beyound the start up chime. Any suggestions where to start: is my power supply bad, my monitor dead, Pram bad??? I really didn't want to buy a new computer for a few months, but I don't want to spend a lot to experiment on it either. I mostly use this machine to surf the internet, and scan and print photos. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
