Makes sense, Primo, what you say.
I did try to upgrade to NS 6 (in OS 9) but AGAIN, it crashed totally on trying to import that troublesome profile's mail. I am not ashamed to admit that I swore terrible oaths.

I'm wondering now if I Save all those 2,000+ messages as a text file, whether I can import them in some fashion and have them show up as email?? Another thing I'm agonna try is see if I can import the stuff into Mail and just abandon Netscape.
Onward and sideways (if not upwards)...

Anon, there's only *one* "Application Registry" on the entire HD and it's in the OS X folders. There is no such registry in the OS 9 folders.
I'm still hoping there's a valid solution!

I went back and read your original message. You used Netscrape 4.7, which had different roots than the more recent versions (which are based on the open-source Mozilla project). It might help to upgrade to the latest OS 9 version of Netscrape, try to import the profiles and then try the AppReg trick.
