I'm using Jag on a 350 MHz iMac. I have 512 MB of RAM and a fairly fast hard
drive with plenty of unused space.

Jaguar is the first version of OS X I have installed. Compared to OS 9.1,
the machine is actually much faster. I think the good amount of RAM (cost
under $70) is the reason. Downloading files, email, and using Safari (vs.
Explorer under 9.1) is all much faster. The Finder seems much faster. Best
part is, I have NEVER crashed even once in the 2 wks since installation.
That is really incredible.

I am not using Photoshop, other extreme memory hogs, and I rarely use
Classic. I also have avoided any kind of system hack, although I do have a
number of login programs running.

I have also fixed permissions and installed all the software updates.
Overall, I am very pleased. This setup is also faster than an 800 MHz Wintel
laptop that I am forced to use for work.

So feel good about letting you mom use OS X. It's really a lot better.
