From: Charles <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Some here might recall when the "Colonel" sold ownership of KFC (to the Pepsi company, I believe - Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc.),
I have some personal insight on this matter because my mother was a good friend of "Colonel" Harlan Sanders -- she was negotiating to become his personal assistant/nurse around the time this deal concluded (she ultimately did not take the job -- turns out he was a bit of a letch! :). He did not sell his company to Pepsi, he sold it to David Brothers, a large southern cafeteria chain. Davis Bros. immediately messed with the recipes (particularly the gravy, which went from delicious to wallpaper paste in a matter of weeks) and eventually sold out to Pepsi, who owns it today. The gravy, by the way, is still vile. The rest of the stuff is okay.
Sanders originally sold his interest in the company in 1976 for what today seems a paltry $2 million (it looked like a lot to him at the time I'm sure), though he made a lot of "extra" money by staying on as a spokesman for the company for a couple of years.
Point of trivia: the "Colonel" part of his name was an honourary title given by the state of Kentucky (they do that periodically, sort of like a knighthood). He was not, to the best of my knowledge, ever in the military. Sadly, a lot of people today don't even realise he was a real person.
He died in 1980 of leukemia.(I think he's dead now).
To me it appears to be a clear case of the Beatles (attorneys) attempting to
assert their legal rights and nothing more. As stupid as it might be on the
surface, that's how the law works.
