Thanks for the tips. The one that worked was to boot from OS 9.2, then go to
Users, (myfile), then Desktop and drag the offending files to the Trash.
That worked perfectly.


Glad to hear it worked!

The files in question were Internet Explorer files that had been damaged but
were still controlled by IE, which prevented them from actually being put in
the Trash. So BatCHMod's "Force Empty Trash" and OnyX's similar program
didn't work.


I have noticed that IE's cache/temp files have a tendency to become troublesome. They are the only damaged files that I have come across that couldn't be removed by non-Terminal OS X methods.

I might suggest to you that it's time to audition a new default browser. I like and use Safari (though I keep a copy of Mozilla around as well).
