It's worth noting that if you have two machines that both have Firewire on them that are in relatively close proximity to each other, you can achieve VASTLY faster transfer speeds with a FW cable and "FW Target Disk Mode". I don't have the KnowledgeBase article bookmarked, but it's very straightforward:
You can also use the IPOverFirewire beta build. It is labled beta, but it's worked very well (I moved 80GB over FW when I was reformatting/restoring a machine)
Nice thing about IPFW is once it's installed it's just another connection. You can even share your internet over it. Or connect a PC...
