I'm gradually weaning myself to OS X, but have this wonderful, still fully functional multi-function printer that will have <according to the company's website> no drivers for X. If I run an app in Classic, will it print then? That would truly help speed up my switch to X! Kris
Kris,
Have you checked Gimp-Print to see whether an OS X driver is available for your printer? I downloaded and installed the driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 700 and it works beautifully.

Yes, if you run an OS 9 application in the Classic environment of OS X, you can print from it. However, you cannot print from an OS X application.
If you want to print a file created in an OS X application, you have to open it in an OS 9 application. I have been using AppleWorks 5 for this purpose.
Unfortunately, it seems that Carbon applications (like AppleWorks 6 and Acrobat Reader 5) do not access the OS 9 print driver even when running the OS 9 version in the OS X Classic environment. The Print command opens the OS X Print Center.
Thus, when I convert a document to PDF using the OS X Print Center, open it in the OS 9 version of Acrobat Reader in the Classic environment of OS X and issue the Print command, it still opens the OS X Print Center.
