I would call them again, and raise a MAJOR stink. They should have record that you called before the warrenty expired complaining of the same problem. Of course they are going to tell you tough luck, but that's because they don't WANT to fix it. So they weed out those that really don't care by saying No. But if you make enough of an issue of it, they will probably give in and take it in under warrenty. Be sure to remind them that YOU wanted to send it in when it first happened, and THEY told you not to.
