The absolute worst thing happened. My iBook, took it upon itself to erase, all my documents. Now normally that would not be a bad thing, Clean house whatever... however, I had no backups. I had been dumping all my old backups, the things accumulate like bees on a plate of honey, so had dumped them all with the idea that I'd do a new backup Tuesday morning. Turned the laptop on from sleep mode Tuesday January 13 heard a grinding noise and then looked in the hard drive, no documents, the applications were there, however no documents.
Figured they had hidden themselves, nope, no way, gone. Called my local dealer, the one which will still talk to me... They ran their copy of AllSoft's Disk Warrior on the computer. No documents file, however, many many errors on the hard drive. Disk Warrior repaired the errors. (Maybe?) This list has made note of problems with the G3 iBooks and the logic board. Could the logic board have had something to do with this? The dealer gave me back the laptop, they couldn't do anything to recover the document files. The head service techie and the general manager both kindly suggested maybe I shouldn't be allowed near anything computer or mechanical. I don't think they were be funny, somehow. My track record is poor... My 350 Mhz iMac died after 18 months, my eMac kept failing and died after six months, this iBook has lasted less than six months. PC's before that would last about three months, and they'd die.; My new IBM laptop lasted about four months before it died, its replacement last two months. Maybe electronic devices aren't my forte? Came home, decided to start afresh. Erased the hard drive completely, reloaded all the supplied software, yes in OSX which I dislike, and started again... Now the fun. Disk burner doesn't work, even after dumping preferences twice. nor does Quicktime. Apple seems to have a love affair with Micro$oft. So what do I do? Could the hard drive still be faulty>? I have he extened warranty, however have my doubts as to what may happen again... And have others found the level of quality control on Apple products to be dropping? Maybe its me? Ideas, please...
