I've see these symptoms before on customers repairs. The only way to accurately diagnose the problem 100% is to swap the processor board out with a known good one. When you removed the processor card to access the bottom slot did you take anti static precautions, i.e. Use a wrist strap, and carefully prise up the card using the spring clip over the heatsink as recomended? Have you properly pushed the card back into place, not being fully located in its connector is also a common problem. If you had a memory problem you would hear beeps. This isn't your problem. If the flyback transformer had failed the iMac would chime, power LED would go green, then as the screen image would normally appear the iMac would turn off.
