thanks for the response. i tried everything, switching the various modules and taking
out the battery and pressing the cuda button. nothing has worked. the result is that
even with the original 2 32MB RAM modules the computer fails to turn on, the start
button turns orange, there is no chime, the fan comes on, the screen remains dark, and
there is no sound of hard drive activity. i am feeling quite beaten down at the
moment.

::chuckles:: I've been gone from this list for a
while and just recently returned... its almost like a
soap opera you can pick back up in a day or so.

This string or variants thereof pop up every so often
and the the only real answer is there is no set
answer.

I've got a Rev B Bondi iMac. That I am typing on right
now. It now currently has a 333 daughterboard in it
that I got on ebay for $30.00 but I'll relate my
experiences with the 233 daughterboard since they
mirror yours.

When I got it it had a 32 in the lower slot like they
all came standard. I picked up a couple of 128
S0-DIMMS from Staples to pop in it since they were
only 19.95 a piece. When I put them in I got the same
thing you had. Just a flashing orange light. I
pressed the CUDA switch, flashed PRAM, removed the
battery and waited just for good measure but could not
get it to work with either 128 in top or bottom
position.

The only thing that would bring the computer back to
life was to put the original 32 Meg chip in the bottom
slot, press the cuda switch and restart.

Once I got it working again I tried leaving the 32 in
the bottom slot and tried both of the 128's in the top
slot and both worked as long as I didn't press the
cuda switch after adding them. If I did the same
flashing orange light would happen. So I gave the
other 128 to my dad for his PC notebook and decided
I'd have to live with 160 Megs of RAM in my lil Bondi.

It was a very touchy situation because I found out my
PRAM battery is dead (which I still haven't replaced 2
years later... I know I'm lazy..) so whenever power
went out it in effect zapped my PRAM and then wouldn't
recognize the 128 until I removed it pressed the CUDA
then restarted with the 32... which takes about 20
minutes and a tremendous amount of hard drive activity
when your start up is set to Jaguar... it just
despises 32 Megs of RAM though it does start ;)....
Then I'd put the 128 back in and restart and be back
in business.

I tried buying 2.2.2 RAM guaranteed to work in my
computer and though I did get rid of the having to
trick the computer into using the top RAM I never
could get the bottom slot to recognize anything other
than the original 32 Meg chip. I even tried a Apple
made 64 from another iMac and that didn't work either.
Also my particular computer recognizes only 128 out
of 256 when its loaded in the top slot. I've tried 3
different 256 chips that work as 256 in other
computers and its just the way it is.

Finally when I put the 333 daughterboard in my bottom
slot recognizes the 128 I used to have in the top and
I took a 256 (Apple made) from another of my computers
when I replaced it with a 512 and my lil Bondi still
only recognizes 128 in the top.... so here I sit on
my Bondi/333 with 256 Megs of RAM. Been a long
journey getting here and a lot of taking it apart..but
thats my story and I'm stick'n to it. :)
