This sounds similar to what my 500MHz Indigo slot-loader has been doing ever since I got it (as a former Fry's demo model) slightly over a year ago. At random moments, usually only once every few hours, there'll be a quiet electric crackle, like someone clicking their fingernails, with a brief, narrow horizontal line of static on the screen. I figured it's just some electrostatic thing, nothing to be overly concerned about, especially since it hasn't gotten worse. Is this the sort of thing that I should just let go until it fails, or is it better to catch and repair it early?
Also I've noticed that sometimes as I open or close applications and windows, anything that vastly changes the amount of light vs. dark on the screen (light window vs. dark desktop picture), the size of the image on the monitor wavers slightly, shrinking a couple pixel's worth for an instant before snapping back to normal. Again, nothing new, but something tells me this might be some sign of eventual impending badness. But it's gone this long without getting worse, so...? And Di-No in Pasadena says $250-$280 for repairing a G3 iMac w/ a bad flyback transformer, 2-3 working day turnaround.
