When I tried out - and didn't like - OS X 10.1 I just booted in OS 9 and
dragged all the OS X-related folders (Applications, Library, System, Users)
to the bin. Worked just fine. OS 9 continued to run, problem free. It did
take a few hours to empty the Trash, mind.

I do now run 10.2.8 on my iMac 400 DV and wouldn't go back to OS 9 for love
or money.
