I'm having a little problem getting my iMac G4 (800mhz 15" flat panel) running Panther to recognize my Starmax 5500/200 (running 8.6). I installed a D-Link PCI card on the Starmax (DFE 530TX+). After physically installing the card and installing the os8 drivers, ethernet did not appear (on the Starmax) in the available options for Appletalk or TCP/IP. Reinstalled Appletalk & TCP/IP. Did a clean system install with the card physically installed, then re-installed the drivers, with the same results. By the same token the Starmax hard drive was not recognized by the iMac.
Tried connecting through the router as well as directly with a crossover cable & still no networking.
The card in the Starmax appears functional...lights up and the hub shows it's connected, but ethernet still isn't an available option. The only thing I can think to try would be physically remove the card and install it in a different slot.
The problem is, I also tried to network the iMac with my daughters G3 laptop, my iMac hard drive showed up on her desktop (while using either the router or crossover cable), but still nothing showing up on the iMac. Which is leading me to believe that the problem lies somewhere with the iMac....or maybe it's just me.
Any suggestions?
