I'm having a little problem getting my iMac G4 (800mhz 15" flat panel) running Panther to recognize my Starmax 5500/200 (running 8.6). I installed a D-Link PCI card on the Starmax (DFE 530TX+). <snip>
Did you download the latest driver from D-Link's web site? My DFE 530 TX on my PTP "disappeared" with 10.3, after updating the driver all was well.

The problem is, I also tried to network the iMac with my daughters G3 laptop, my iMac hard drive showed up on her desktop (while using either the router or crossover cable), but still nothing showing up on the iMac.
What OS is on the G3 laptop.

Under Panther, or earlier versions of OS X, a shared hard drive will not automatically mount on the desktop. You have to use the "Go" or "Network" commands to call up the connect to dialog.

Which is leading me to believe that the problem lies somewhere with the iMac....or maybe it's just me.
Can they ping each other?

Any suggestions?
Start simple. Assign each and IP address manually, then use the "Network Utility" on the iMac to ping the other machine.
