Subject: iPod tunes> new iMac's iTunes library
Date: Thu, 8 Apr 2004 08:27:23 -0400

My 10 G iPod is loaded with 7G of tunes, and I have passed on my older
500 MHz iMac (the one that has all the same tunes stored on its
external FW HD) to one of my daughters. When I plug my iPod into my new
1.25 G iMac, a window prompts me "this iPod is linked to another Mac.
Do you want to erase the iPod's library, and sync to this new Mac's
iTunes Library?" The only problem is there's nothing in the new iTunes
Library. I don't particularly relish loading all my CDs into this
machine if it isn't truly necessary.
I don't want to wipe the iPod's library if I don't have to. Help! I
must be missing something here. How do I link the iPod's tunes to the
new Mac's iTunes?
Patrick

That's a "feature" of the iPod. It can only be linked to one computer at a time. Are you wanting to copy the items from the iPod to your new Mac? If so, you can use something like iPodiTunes, which is not cheap at 30 Euros. http://www.crispsofties.com/
Or you might try to show all the invisible files when it's mounted on the desktop and search for .mp3 names and then copy them. But to sync correctly every time copy the files from the external HD to your new music library on the G4.
