The problem, to review, was that he had to use an OS 9 application to do his taxes on his eMac, but then could not print out his return because his OS 9 System Folder did not have the drivers for his Epson 825 printer.
The error we made was in assuming that the Epson print driver installer would only work properly if applied while OS 9 was being used as the boot system. My friend's eMac cannot boot in OS 9. But it turns out that simply launching the Classic environment and then double-clicking on the Epson Installer application results in all the printer driver and related files being installed in my friend's OS 9 Folder in just the same manner as they would be if he was operating on a Mac booted from OS 9. So he is a happy camper now and has his file copy of his tax return tucked away in his file cabinet.
The other suggestion provided, to select a LaserWriter print driver, have it create a postscript file version of the print job, and then use Preview under OS X to send it to one's regular printer, is also a valid workaround which I had overlooked. Thanks for that suggestion, again.
