"Local news" is what? Television? Radio? Almost never a reliable source of accurate info about computing and the Internet, as you prolly know.
It did say that Apple has a patch available, yet couldn't find anything about it when I checked Apple's website.
OS X is vulnerable to an exploit that is quite complicated, technically. Details here:

Apple's Software Update has a patch that is a partial fix. It is expected that Apple will release a more comprehensive fix ASAP.
Meanwhile the Mac sites on the Net are offering lots of temporary, partial fixes, some of which are prolly not advisable.
