Apple says that SATA to PATA adapters aren't supported in the G5s. The G5s DO have a normal PATA bus for the optical drive, and it's possible (though not pretty) to attach an ATA/IDE hard drive to that bus. Then just plug in the old external FireWire drive, copy the stuff to the new internal drive, and give the old drive to a less fortunate Mac user.
