I want to put a HD (IDE) firewire but external into a G5 Mac (put out the drive and mount into the G5. Is this possible ?

You seem to be asking several different -- and conflicting -- things.
If you meant: Can I connect a regular IDE/ATA drive in a FW case to a G5, then the answer is yes.
If you meant: Can I take an IDE drive out of a FW case and install it in a G5, then the answer is no. G5s use Serial ATA drives, which are different than the ATA/IDE drives you're familiar with. I suspect there's an adapter out there somewhere, but you might get a serious performance hit so I wouldn't recommend it.
The good news is that Serial ATA (also called SATA) drives are coming down in price too. I recently saw one on Dealmac.com for around $1 per GB, which is excellent.
Your last question seems to be "is there a difference between IDE and ATA drives?" The answer is no, they are the same -- but SATA drives are not the same as ATA/IDE drives.
