I'm looking at getting a scanner and one of the choices I've narrowed it down to is the Epson Perfection 2400 Photo. According to Epson's site it comes with the following software, Adobe Photoshop Elements, EPSON Smart Panel with NewSoft OCR and EPSON TWAIN Scanning Software.
I know the Photoshop Elements (2.0) is a native OS X app, but are the others? Do they install while booted into OS X or do they require an OS 9 booting Mac like Canon's scanners require to install the bundled software? How is the NewSoft OCR software? Any comments on the above questions or the Epson Perfection 2400 Photo will be appreciated.

However, a friend of mine just bought the same scanner and the scanner software now works PERFECTLY with OSX, and it is very nice. Never a need to use OS 9.
Also Photoshop Elements 2.0 is a heck of a nice piece of software that costs about $75 alone (discounted!).
The scanner is excellent and even does a good job with slides.
