Hi Allen,
I just tried the OCR function on my Epson 2400 for the first time.
VERY easy to use and to edit.
It read all of the characters in a type-written document correctly, except for words that were originally printed in blue and red.
I then changed the scan mode from b&w to color, and all but a couple of the blue/red text were read correctly (e.g., it failed to read the @ sign). The color scan was slower than the b&w.
There are other settings possible to make the OCR even more accurate. The following was part of the information suggested for improving OCR (information was found on the web, from clicking on help from one of the windows that came up during the scanning process):
* Try adjusting the Threshold setting in the Image Controls dialog box.
* Select Text Enhancement Technology from B/W Option in the Image Type dialog box to eliminate background noise.
* For Perfection1660Photo and 2400Photo users:
Change the Image Type setting. Select Text (Background Removal) as the Image Type.
* See Optimizing Text Scanning for OCR for more information.
Hope this helps.
Dale

Hi Dale, iMacers, eMacers:
I'd love to hear about your experience with Epson's included NewSoft OCR software.
