I am running Panther on an original bondi iMac (233Mhz, 256MB Ram, 40GB HD). Yeah, I upped the HD and the RAM, but the system runs fairly smooth. Programs seem to run ok. But I don't like that the speed of my processor is so slow. So, I've been eyeing one of those Sonnet Harmoni CPU Upgrade cards with the additional firewire port.
I run programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS, and Dreamweaver MX and those programs seem to bog down when they are opened, but otherwise they run fine.

I also did a fresh install of Panther, and I have NO OS 9 partition. So, I don't run anything in classic mode. So, what was said earlier about needing a partition for OS 9 isn't required. And because of the fresh install, I skipped 9.2 and 10.1.1. But the fresh install did initialize my disk - so if you have data, that may not be an option.

Hope that helps.

You'
ve nearly the exact same setup as me. I am also running Panther, although I went from 10.1 to jaguar then to Panther, but I'm confident enough that I plan to get rid of the older versions of OS X and just stick with the Panther disks, unless of course I get Tiger and it works on my iMac.
In short, I can confidently say you shouldn't have anyproblems adding in Panther, except keep in mind you'll still have to have two partitions- one OS 9 and one OS X because of the way your iMac was built.

Hi All,
I have a 1999 iMac DV SE 400mhz w/512m (not matched) Can I leap from 9.2.2
to Panther and pass up Jaguar entirely? I don't do graphic intensive stuff
or make movies or would even use garage band...just very simple stuff and
eBay selling. But, I just so dislike IE and Outlook Express and dearly want
to be rid of them and AOL.
I finally have DSL now and would like to enter the 21st century.
What do you all think.
Thanks,
Kate
