It sounds as if the iMac doesn't like the G4 install. I'm not an expert but it sounds as if you should install Panther on the hard drive when it's in the iMac....maybe a firmware issue?

I have Panther running smooth on an iMac 400 and an iMac 500...and it seems "normal" that they run hot. How is the circulation around your machine? I've even heard of some using a small fan blowing air around the machine to help cooling.

The circulation seems OK. It is sitting on to of a desk with nothing around it. It runs fine for a hour or two before it starts crapping out. I had a hard time getting OS 9 installed right on it. My 9.1 disk wouldn't boot it. The install I did from the G4 didn't work right when Classic started. I ended up having to install 9.1 from within Panther. Even then it wouldn't boot into 9.1. So I updated to 9.2.2 through Classic. I think I might try booting into 9.2.2 and doing the firmware update to see if that helps.

Is there a easy way to get the top cover off? I was thinking about removing the handle and installing a fan in it's place.

Thanks--

Kevin
