Be aware that all _retail_ desktop ATA drives come with only a one year
warranty.

I'd strongly suggest buying a drive with a 3 year warranty. The Western
Digital bulk-packed JB-series (8mb cache, Special Edition or somesuch)
are as good a choice as any, buy from such outfits as newegg.com or
ZipZoomFly.com (or your-fave-vendor.com.)

You _can_ buy a retail-packed WD JB drive with the 1 year warranty and
upgrade to 3 year's coverage for US$15. Visit the WD website for details.
Their warranty upgrade is unique among the drive makers AFAIK.
