Hi,
In about six weeks the old Rev. B 233 iMac will celebrate its sixth anniversary fulfilling our families computing needs. Even this far into the game the old Rev. B serves us well running gaming and ed software for our kids, the usual e-mail and Internet stuff, some small time web publishing, managing digital photos and some mp3s (zip CDR is trashed now ) and even subbing in to do some take home work from the office. But as time goes by some of the limitations of the old machine have had me thinking about a new machine which will of course be another Apple product.
Many of you may have been through this before. It starts with a simple thought, "if it only had firewire " or " I really need a bigger hard drive" followed by "as long as I am in there I could retrofit a CDRW drive" and "that Sonnet upgrade is cool " and " I could just keep this machine." The the cost starts to add up and before you know it you have spent $450 upgrading a G3 to a G3 and have spent well over half the price of an eMac. That thought is always followed by " well there are some 17" flat panel iMacs of [EMAIL PROTECTED] for only.....You get the point, right?
A new machine will become a reality soon and even though the Rev B will be playing second fiddle it will still be playing fiddle. It will most likely receive a bigger hard drive but and OSX but for now that is about all. However, I do want to be able to use both machines with the cable modem and from various rooms in the house which brings me to the real question. Does it have to be Airport to be wireless?
The rev B has no provision for an airport card but the new machine will. I really do not want to spend a pile of cash for an airport base station and card for the new machine but not be able to wireless network the Rev B in. What are the options if any besides Airport or is there a way to make Airport work for my situation?
Thanks Chris
