Well, Ken:

Back when hard drives were tiny Stuffit Deluxe v3 loaded lots of buggy things into
your computer under System 7 and 8. There was a control panel thingy called Stuffit
True Finder Integration (Stuffit TFI) that always loaded last during Startup. A lot of
other resources didn't like TFI, so it loaded last.

If my memory serves me well, it gave access to several features that were pretty
nifty.

One of the features was the ability to create folders with the words SMALL or BIG
(default) in the folder name. Items dropped onto these folders were automatically
either compressed or protected from compression. When you dragged a document out of
the SMALL folder onto your Desktop it automatically expanded. Put it back in and it
recompressed. System files were exempt.

Another available feature was compression and decompression by "Renaming." All you
had to do to create a Stuffit archive of a document was change the name of the
document by adding the ".sit" suffix to its name. Deleting the suffix caused the
document to expand.

I suspect that this is what you are referring to. Look up "True Finder Integration" on
the internet.
