Can't comment on the LeVitus, but the Pogue is a very good introduction and a useful reference. Indeed I just reached for it a few minutes ago, because I'd forgotten how undo some tinkering from weeks back. It's accessible but not patronising (to be fair, that goes for what I've read by LeVitus too).
