With my current workhorse currently dead, I'm leaning towards finally modernizing and picking up the G5. But in my universal uneasiness, (plus my Macs up to now have all been older machines, so even if I muck up something seriously, I could always find a replacement part dirt cheap.) I thought I'd throw out a few questions ot current owners.
Presently I'm looking at the 17" 1.6GHz model with Combo drive. Have you found the base 256MB RAM sufficient (and the most intensive app you've been using?) Or should I go and bump it to 512. I know I haven't said what I plan to use it for, so I'll say whatever apps it comes with (AppleWorks, Safari, iLife, etc) full force and several of them simultaneously? Installation of upgrades easy? Friend who is an Apple service tech says it's been made really easy/accessable, but hasn't shown me the internals of one yet. Things I have in mind presently are RAM and internal Bluetooth.) Backwards hardware compatability, is it still possible to use my StyleWriters and Quicktake camera. I know there's USB-Serial adapters, but will Classic still be able to access them? thanks. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
