Very similar issues have been reported by users on older Mac's with CHUD when the user has the "nap" mode enabled. Same kind of random and irregular freezes, semi-freezes, and hung cursor problems you describe, across a number of applications.
But I believe my point still remains: would you expect to be forced to look for all this and figure it out on your own, being the user of "world's most advanced operating system"? Windows XP never gave me these kind of trouble, and I believe I used it in much more extreme situations
By the way, I don't want to come across as Mac OS X basher, I still like it better than Windows. :)
