This is actually a very good question, so I used my contacts to find out The Word from Apple.

Direct from the product manager: DO NOT put anything heavy on top of the Mac Mini. Doing so would probably damage the optical drive.

Ironically, if you pulled OUT the guts of the iMac and just left the tube and it's VGA connector, you could actually put the Mac Mini *in* the case ...
