It isn't that hard... of course, if you haven't done it before (or do it 
often enough to be used to it), it can be dangerous. If you use a utility 
knife, they tend to jump as the plastic gives way... jumping sharp razors 
can take fingers off very easily.

Of course, you could use a hot element of some kind to melt the 
plastic... then you just have to deal with the toxic fumes (and the risk 
of the plastic catching fire, and creating molten nasty stuff that will 
rip the flesh from your fingers as you try to pull it back off).

Gee... now why is it that you don't want to try doing this?!? :-)
