I've seen 17 inch VGA monitors at Best Buy for $99.00. Why go through all
of this trouble just to 'jury rig' a monitor for the Mini-Mac? I don't get

With a SLOT LOAD iMac, no it isn't just an adaptor plug. There is no easy
way to connect to the CRT on the slot load versions.
The TRAY LOAD has an internal standard RGB video cable running to the
CRT, so the tray load model is just an adaptor (but remember, the power
for the CRT still comes thru the iMac, so you still need to have the iMac
powered on to use the Mac Mini with the iMac CRT)

It's a handsome piece of hardware but I think its size and versatility is fertile fuel for our imaginations :)
It's almost a shame to imagine it hooked up to all the orphaned old non-Apple monitors out there! :)
