I'm also trying to get the computer to recognize the difference between a fax and a phone call. I have only one phone line, but I have a second phone number that makes a distinctive ring. I read online where you can use the Terminal utility, change a line of code in there, and then calls that come in from the distinctive ring number will go to fax... but as long as I've got the modem connected, voice calls are getting the fax tone also. So I haven't done something right... Find the line that reads: INIT="-iZ -i&FE0&D2S7=120 -i&C0" And change it to read: INIT="-iZ -i&FE0&D2S7=120 -i&C0-SDR=2" ------------------------------------------------------- It seems some of the apple modems don't support distinctive rings.
