As long as Jag is on a different partition as the drive your planning to
wipe?
If the hard drive you plane to wipe also includes the OS then you should use
CCCloner to clone the drive first. A drag and drop copy WILL NOT WORK on OS
X.
There are hidden files and other stuff that will not get copied over.
Once you successfully clone the drive onto the external drive make make sure
you boot off the clone to make sure everything still works. (you need to
booth off the external drive anyways if you plan to erase the internal
drive).
Now you can wipe the internal drive and then use CCCloner to clone the
backup back to the imac.
Everything should be back to normal. If for some reason something goes wrong
with the clone nothing will work and you may have to do a fresh OS X
install.

Then you'll be apologizing instead of thanking.
